This is because the average lifespan of a well-maintained air conditioner is from 15 to 20 years. Therefore, knowing your unit’s age will keep you well-prepared for any unexpected obstacles if your AC should happen to suddenly retire. After all, no one likes being caught off guard, right?

If you’ve misplaced your AC paperwork, no worries! Follow these simple steps from your Westerville Air Conditioning & Heating professionals to uncover the exact age of your air conditioner:

HAVE YOU SEARCHED YOUR CONDENSER FOR THE MANUFACTURE DATE?

The easiest thing to do is look when looking for information about a unit is to look on the unit itself. So, first, you’ll want to head to your outdoor unit, which is also known as the condenser. In case you don’t know what that is, it is the large metal box usually stationed in your backyard or on the side of your house. Once you’ve located it, look for the nameplate on one of its sides. This nameplate holds all the essential info about the unit. Look up to the upper right corner and the top area of the plate. You should find the manufacture date somewhere here, and it will often be labeled as MFR DATE or something similar. If it’s not there, no worries – onwards to step number two! We aren’t giving up on this little HVAC quest just yet.

HAVE YOU SEARCHED ONLINE FOR THE MANUFACTURE DATE?

Still no luck with the manufacture date? Embrace your inner online detective by jotting down the model, brand, and serial number from the nameplate. A quick snapshot with your phone works wonders too! Now, utilize your favorite online search engine, type in brand, model, and serial number, add “manufacture date” to end of the query, then click that search button. Behold the wonders of the internet! Various websites will pop up, offering specific instructions to decode the manufacture date of your particular AC model. Bravo! Your research and perseverance have paid off, and the code to unveil your air conditioner’s age should now be cracked.
