Frequent Furnace Questions

Dec 17, 2021 | Blog, Furnace, Heating, HVAC, Maintenance, OH, Ohio, Westerville, Winter

Residents of Ohio are used to the constantly changing weather. One day might feel like the perfect amount of chilly, while the very next will be utterly freezing. Remember, furnaces work harder the colder the weather is. So how do we make sure your furnace stays in five-star condition? Your furnace will usually tell you when something is up. Learn to listen to those signals. Your Westerville Air Conditioning & Heating family has pieced together a list of frequent furnace issues that will help you to know what to look for should any problems arise.

Thermostat Is Not Working?

Maybe your thermostat has been acting up. Suppose you have not been able to decipher whether the thermostat is the culprit. Your thermostat will keep running if the fan setting has been set to “on.” You can fix this by changing the fan setting to “auto” instead.

Furnace Not Blowing Cold Air?

It goes without saying that furnaces are meant to blow warm air, not cold. Check the pilot light if you notice that your furnace is suddenly blowing cold air. It might need lit again. You should be able to locate the instructions on your furnace. Next, you should check your air filter. Dirty air filters are frequent contributors to a number of furnace problems.

Furnace Keep Turning Off?

It is pretty frustrating when a furnace keeps shutting off. If you are experiencing this, know that you are not alone. Unfortunately, this happens to many homeowners. You can fix this by once again, changing those air filters. Clogged filters can restrict airflow from reaching your heat exchanger. As a result, it causes the furnaces to turn off. If your furnace continues to shut off after swapping out the filters, please give us a call at Westerville Air Conditioning & Heating. We would be happy to assist you.

Furnace Produces a Smell?

At the risk of sounding like a nagging parent, check those air filters, check those air filters, check those air filters. Think of all the air pollutants your air filters are collecting. A fresh air filter may just be the resolution to any unwelcoming smells coming from your HVAC system. Are you still smelling something a little off? Remember, it is normal for your furnace to smell a little funky when it is turned on for the first time in the year.

Furnace Is Making Noises?

Tapping, banging, buzzing, humming- if these are any types of sounds you are hearing from your furnace, you want to perform an investigation to figure out what’s going on. Step one: Check the furnace area for any loose screws or debris. Step two: Check to see if any panels on the heating unit need tightening. Step three: check any exposed ductwork for holes or tears. After inspecting everything, we suggest calling a service professional to get the issue diagnosed if you can’t pinpoint the problem.
